Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has taken over all of our lives. During this difficult time the City of Fitchburg’s focus has been on the health and safety of our students, residents, employees and first responders. Many of our staff are working remotely and although we are closed to the public, we are providing essential Municipal services to the residents of Fitchburg. As you are aware, all scheduled public gatherings in Fitchburg have been cancelled.

One thing is for certain, with nonessential business closed and self-distancing protections in place, there is much more activity on the internet and Facebook. With that being said, the Mayor is encouraging you to post and share  information on your Facebook pages, and other social media sites,  about the importance of the 2020 Census.

Remember people can choose to complete the census 3 ways: online, by phone, or by mail.

The U.S. Constitution mandates that a census of the population be conducted once every 10 years. Census data helps determine the number of seats each state holds in Congress and how billions of dollars in funding are distributed to states and local communities every year for services and infrastructure, including health care, jobs, schools, roads, and bridges.

Visit Fitchburg’s Census page at https://www.fitchburgma.gov/881/US-Census-2020   and share the link with all your contacts and on your social media sites.   If your place of work has a website ask if they  will post a link to the Census.   People can fill out their Census by visiting the City of Fitchburg’s page and clicking Census online.

People can respond to the Census over the phone, even without the invitational letter, by calling one of the numbers below:  Phone lines are open every day from 7am to 2am Eastern Time. https://2020census.gov/en/contact-us.html

Please continue to help Fitchburg, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, by promoting the 2020 Census whenever and wherever you can.  By working together we are helping to ensure that Fitchburg has a complete and accurate count in the 2020 Census.  Fitchburg’s future funding from the federal government dependents on it.
